Seemingly fresh off the holidays, a very sun-tanned Grand Duchess Maria Teresa welcomed Luxembourg's best students at the palais earlier today. Usually it is the Grand Duke's job to welcome the best graduates of both the classical and technical high schools each year but as he is still in Argentina, his wife had to step in for him.

Adrian Hasler, Liechtenstein's prime minister, is currently on a visit to Austria as well as Southern Moravia in the Czech Republic. During his stay in Austria, he used the chance to visit Schloss Wilfersdorf, an estate near the Austrian-Czech border owned by the Princely Family. At the castle, he was welcomed by Prince Constantin and Liechtenstein's ambassador to Austria Maria-Pia Kothbauer, Princess of Liechtenstein was also in on the event.
From Schloss Wilfersdorf the agricultural and forestry properties of the Prince of Liechtenstein Foundation in Lower Austria are run. Last year, Prince Constantin took over the job of the CEO of the foundation from his uncle Prince Philipp. The castle is also currently home to an exhibition called "On the trails of the Liechtensteins through Southern Moravia and Lower Austria" which is sponsored by the European Union.

Meanwhile in Liechtenstein, Hereditary Prince Alois was on hand to open an exhibition entitled "Anschluss or remaining sovereign" at the Landesmuseum in Vaduz. The exhibition deals with the situation of the Principality after the occupation and annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany in 1938.
Back when we talked about what Liechtenstein's National Day was all about, we also talked a little about just how difficult the situation of the tiny alpine nation was in advance to and during the Second World War. The late Prince Franz Josef II played a major role in keeping the country neutral after he had become regent of Prince Franz I in March 1938 and then ascended to the throne after his death in July.

Prince Hans-Adam II and Princess Marie meanwhile were in Great Britain today to attend the funeral of Hugh van Cutsem. Most well-known for his friendship with the Prince of Wales and his family, he also seemed to have some kind of a connection with the Princely Family, if you have any idea in what way, let us know! The funeral was held at Brentwood Cathedral in Essex. (Special hat tips to Order of Splendor and Kathymac who sent the news in.)
